And I Asked Myself, “What Would Doogie Do?”
Inspired by yesterday’s blogging, today has become a Day of Making Plans to Get Things Done…Eventually.
That’s right. I’m making some plans. And then I might act on those plans.
If you know me then you know that making (and following through with) plans doesn’t work in my world. In fact, it is usually so disastrous that I avoid it all together…For the good of the universe.
But, this morning something clicked, and I realized that if I don’t start to consider making plans then nothing important is going to be accomplished. So, I got out of bed, I argued with the cat about her tuna addiction, I read some email, and then I made a list of things TO DO–things that aren’t just the everyday things (this was step 1)–and then I emailed Mr. and told him that we were going to become planning and doing people today (this was step 2).
He proceeded to reply back with profuse apologies for being too busy to keep up with the things that we need to do together. I have to say I was surprised by his response. I mean, usually when I email people to tell them they’ve been slackin’ and that I hope they’ve enjoyed it because their slackin’ days have come to an end, I get replies back that would make my Mom blush. And that’s saying something. (Hi Mom!) Then again, it’s not like I send out those emails often.
The first two steps in my plan to plan and get things done went astoundingly well. So, I’ve decided to take a break. I mean, all this planning to plan is hard work, a lot like sitting and staring at a wall for half an hour. Try it some time. It ain’t easy.
Next up: Making a schedule and cementing it in time by adding it to my iCal. I might even print out the page so that I can use a big red pen to cross things off as we finish them. Suck that, Martha Stewart.
